2:17:11.1

So, I ran a half marathon. On a 10’28” pace, which is… mediocre, considering what I’d been doing in training. Actually I don’t think it’s a good representation of my overall fitness. My 10K split was almost exactly an hour, meaning that I was well on my way to finishing under my 2:11:00 goal – and that for the first time in my life, I ran for an hour without stopping.

Then right around the halfway point, my left knee started to hurt. That’s pretty normal and a level of pain I could definitely (and, I’m pretty sure, safely) ignore. But somewhere between miles 8 and 9 my left ankle started absolutely throbbing. At the time I thought it was my Achilles’ tendon, but after resting and stretching it a (very) little, I’m pretty sure it’s actually the bottommost part of my calf muscle. At any rate, I pulled something. I wound up walking 18 minutes of those last five miles, and the times I was running, it was at about an 11’00” pace. Oh well. I’ll be in better shape, and hopefully luckier, in May.
